Associate Attorney – Civil Defense Litigation | California

We’re seeking a motivated and experienced Associate Attorney to join a fast-growing California civil defense practice group. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney who thrives in a dynamic environment, values mentorship, and enjoys meaningful client interaction and hands-on litigation experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft, review, and respond to complaints, motions, and written discovery

  • Attend hearings, depositions, mediations, and trials as needed

  • Communicate effectively with clients and opposing counsel

  • Manage a caseload of up to 30 matters independently

  • Mentor junior associates (a plus)

  • Maintain billable hours and contribute to team success

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school

  • Active California Bar license in good standing

  • 2+ years of civil defense litigation experience, ideally in one or more of the following areas: general liability, mass tort, toxic tort, construction defect, labor and employment, or insurance defense

  • Experience taking and defending depositions, appearing in court, and drafting motions and discovery

  • Mediation and trial experience strongly preferred

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general legal software

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary range: $120,000–$150,000, commensurate with experience

  • Quarterly performance bonuses based on billable hours (1950)
